The purpose of Archives & Special Collections, a unit of the duPont-Ball Library, is to safeguard Stetson's history and unique cultural heritage. We collect and provide access to records that document Stetson's past, as well as other unique and/or rare items of historical interest. The collections include papers, books, publications, press clippings, photographs, yearbooks, the campus newspaper, and many other objects and ephemera.

Our collections are divided into two categories: the Stetson Archives, comprised of Stetson-generated content; and Stetson's Special Collections, which include materials produced outside the University. Our office serves Stetson's administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as guests from around the world. Many of our holdings are available online through the Stetson Digital Archives, though researchers are welcome to call, email, or visit us in person.
For a complete overview of our holdings, see our Guide to Archives & Special Collections.

Archives Collection Development, Gift, and Retention Policies
The duPont-Ball Library Archives and Special Collections accepts gifts from both on-campus departments and from the community on a case-by-case basis.  Our general collection emphasis, however, is items pertaining to Stetson University history as well as some limited collections on DeLand and West Volusia history.

Any material or physical items deposited to the Archives and Special Collections become part of the physical and/or digital permanent archival collections.  Please note that all gifts to the Archives and Special Collections implies the transfer of ownership to the Stetson University Archives, including all rights to duplicate or photograph or display the item.  Items gifted to the Archives and Special Collections will not be returned.  While it is uncommon to remove items from the permanent collection, the Archives and Special Collections department reserves the right to responsibly discard any deposited items not appropriate to our collections at any time.

Note to University departments and units: We welcome your files and memorabilia items, and we will preserve materials in a responsible manner.  Any material or physical items deposited to the Archives and Special Collections, however, cannot be returned or reclaimed, and are subject to the same terms listed above.
