VR/AR Equipment

The library offers the following XR (Extended Reality) headsets. For more information on how to use these devices, visit our Virtual Reality guide.

Meta Quest 3

The latest consumer-grade VR headset from Meta, the Meta Quest 3 is allowed to leave the library in its convenient carrying case. Patron must have a Meta account to use this device.

HTC Vive

A slightly older wired headset, this device can be used within the library on the Innovation Lab Gaming PC or checked out for home use. It is compatible with SteamVR. Patrons must purchase VR applications desired for use on their own Steam accounts.

Microsoft Hololens 2

A mixed-reality head mounted display that can superimpose virtual images into the real world. The Hololens 2 can be checked out for long term projects (up to one semester) by special arrangement with the Innovation Lab Manager.

Immersive AV Equipment

3Dio Free Space Binaural Microphone

If you plan on developing a 3D video game, including 3D stereo sound is a must. In order to achieve this effect, you can record sounds using our binaural microphone, which simulates human hearing, as there are two microphones in this unit which approximate the position of average human ear canals.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface

This unit allows you to record professional audio on the go. It features dual preamps and digital conversion. The front panel includes XLR/jack combination inputs to connect line and instrument level signals as well as microphones. Perfect for recording game music.

Alienware Workstation

Due to space restrictions, the workstation is available for game creation but not for testing XR headsets as these headsets require a lot of space for adequate movement. In order to develop programs for XR headsets, you must have a powerful computer with up-to-date graphics capabilities. To accommodate this, we have an Alienware computer with a powerful 3D graphics card. Multiple programs for Game Creation are installed.
